Hideaki Anno is a multi-awarded animator, director, and actor. He is best known as the director of the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. He also directed the film Shin Godzilla.

He graduated from the Osaka University of Arts. Anno actually has a history of major depressive disorder, and this became the inspiration for the characters and psychological elements present in his masterpiece, Neon Genesis Evangelion. 

Some of the other series and films directed by Anno are Cutie Honey, Gunbuster, and Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water.

Hideaki Anno married manga artist Moyoko Anno in 2002. He is also known to be a vegetarian.
