Gengoroh Tagame is one of Japan's most notable manga artist and one of the most influential in the field of manga for gay male readers. 1996 was the year when he began working full-time as an openly gay artist. His works, including graphic novels and stories, were translated into English, French, Italian, and Korean. His works were also exhibited in galleries across Europe and America.
Among his works, My Brother's Husband earned a lot of awards. It's Volume 1 earned him a 2018 Eisner Award and Japan Media Arts Award for Outstanding Work of Manga from the Agency of Cultural Affairs.
