Written by Hiromu Arakawa, Fullmetal Alchemist is the story of alchemist brothers - Alphonse Elric and Edward who tried to revive their dead mother back to life but the duo ended up in failure.  Al and Ed inherited their father's magical ability. Each time they practised their skills - they become knowledgeable and skilled. Their mother encourages them with love and affection. Soon after, the mother died of an illness which she kept secret for a long time. The two boys were left grief-stricken and didn't know what to do. Finally, Al and Ed decided to study the book of their father - Hoenheim Elric.

The day has come for the boys to cast a spell that would bring their mother back to life. Unbeknownst to them, doing alchemy on the human body is very dangerous. The boys started to do the alchemy experiment. Instead of turning back their mother to life during a torrential storm, Al's body began to disappear. Elric tried to save his brother by sacrificing his arm. Luckily for the brothers, they were aided by Winry (their childhood friend) who runs a mechanical body parts shop.

They were approached by the State Alchemist - Roy Mustang who was amazed by the brother's exceptional talent. Roy believed that the young alchemists can be stated alchemists as well. After years, Ed passed the Alchemy exam and became the Full metal alchemist. Ed and Al decided to find the philosopher's stone - a mysterious stone rumoured to hold some alchemic powers. Throughout their adventure of seeking the philosopher's tone, they faced adversaries such as Scar, the serial killer and Homunculus, a mysterious clan. The duo's goal was to overcome their past and bring what has been lost.
