Donguri is one of the shops in Japan where you can find original Ghibli merchandise. Together with the Mamma Aiuto shop located in the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo, Studio Ghibli partnered with the Benelic group to introduce Donguri to the world.
The shops contain all sorts of anime merchandise: from kitchenware to bathroom wares, from figurines to plushies, from school supplies to accessories. In some of the Donguri branches, there is the Donguri Bank. In Japanese, the word means acorn, an item seen in most of his films. At the bank, people can bring in acorns. For every hundred acorns that a customer brings, he or she will receive an oak sapling in return. The acorns are then delivered to Okawa, the smallest village in Shikoku, to aid in the reforestation efforts in the area. This has been a project supported by Studio Ghibli founder, Hayao Miyazaki.
