Considered to be one of the biggest anime conventions in the world, Anime Japan has been giving enthusiasts a good time since 2002. Formerly known as the Tokyo International Anime Fair or the Tokyo International Animation Fair, the event is held around March at the Tokyo Big Sight. The anime trade fair is usually held four days: the first two days of which are exclusive to industry members and the press. The last two days of the event are usually held on a weekend, and this is the time that the event is open to the public.
In 2014, the Tokyo International Anime Fair joined forces with Anime Contents Expo, forming the now Anime Japan. The recently concluded Anime Japan 2017 was said to be 107% more successful than last year, garnering around 145, 453 participants.
