If you are a true anime fan, you surely have already noticed all those stray strands of hair literally standing on top of the head of those cute characters.
It is called ahoge in Japanese, which literally means "foolish hair." But this relatively thick strand of hair is not just a mere Japanese animation design signature. This sticking-out hair actualy marks those foolish or happy-go-lucky characters in a certain manga or anime. The playfulness of the character seem to be exuded outward, through this standing hair strand.
The ahoge can also be seen, not just on the top of the head, but can also be situated in in front, at the sides or at the back.
