Taiko (drum) museum or taikokan is the first museum that collects and displays various drums coming from different countries around the world. There are around 200 drums, and most of them, you can bang and play around. Take note of the dots, blue means it can be played, and red if not.
It was founded on 1988 and financed by Miyamoto Japanese Percussion & Festival Shop.
Here you can see the native drums mostly used in festivals in Japan, in different forms, sizes, materials used, and shapes. Visitors can also buy objects used in festivals and other instruments at Miyamoto Japanese Percussion & Festival Shop.
The destination can be reached via Tawaramachi Station or Asakusa Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line.
The museum is open from 10:00-17:00, and closed every Mondays and Tuesdays (or the following day when it falls on a national holiday). Admission costs 500 yen for adults, and 150 yen for child.
