The Fukushima Prefectural Museum is located in the foot of Mt. Shinobu , a symbol of Fukushima Prefecture. The exhibition mainly focuses on the illustration of Japan's entire history from archaeological finds from the Jomon Period to the daily lives in the 1950s. The museum opened in 1984, in an expansive site of more than 60,000 square metersalongside Fukushima Prefectural Library .
The museum houses over 2,000 pieces of artworks that includes paintings, block prints, carvings and craft works. There is an exhibit room that features American paintings from artists like Reginald Mache, Behn Shahn and Andrew Wyeth. Art works of Shoji Sekine and Kiyoshi Saito, Fukushima's own pride, are also displayed in the area. Aside from the permanent displays, the museum also hosts temporary exhibitions.
From the east side of Fukushima Station, ride a bus bound to Kenritsu Bijutsukan Iriguchi bus stop, which is near to the entrance of the museum.
The museum opens at 9:30 to 17:00 It is closed on Mondays and from December 28 to January 4. Admission fee is 270 yen for the permanent exhibition.
